Class/Workshop
At the high-school level, nuclear concepts are rarely discussed in depth and usually in the much later chapters of chemistry and physics books. Teachers interested in exploring beyond these introductory concepts are invited to apply for our one-day workshop in Summer 2025 on the UT Austin campus. Teachers will receive 8 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit and a personalized workshop certificate. The workshops are free and all meals will be provided.
The FREE workshop will include:
- a tour and three introductory lectures in nuclear science and engineering including history of nuclear research, basic radioactivity concepts and radiation and health physics,
- demonstration of three experiments in radiation statistics, half-life measurements, simple radiation shielding,
- take-home and classroom activities for K-12 student populations
The Summer 2025 workshop will be held on July 17, 2025 from 9am-5pm.
